Clothing NFTs? Nike Is Ahead Of The Game With “Swoosh”

Clothing NFTS? One significant aspect of Web 3.0 is the Metaverse, a virtual 3D reality where people can live digitally and experience social connection using some form of 3D goggles. 

In the current Metaverse, we use avatars that embody us in the virtual world (even with the recent addition of legs), and as you can probably realize, even in the metaverse, we have to look our best. And fashion companies are putting much effort into getting ahead in this game, using NFT technology. For instance, Balenciaga issued a digital Balenciaga-branded hoodie for use in the popular online game Fortnite (the hoodie also has a real-life physical version for €725). Also, Lacoste issued its clothing to Minecraft, and there are many other examples. 

But if you are wondering who is the front-runner in the race to be the leading brand in clothing NFTs, the answer is probably Nike. Nike is launching a new platform named Swoosh that will enable the purchase of digital clothing. In its current stage, you can just enroll in the platform. But in 2023, registered users could buy digital clothing designed by Nike’s designers (not RTFKT Studios, which is a different project). Afterward, users could become creators and create their own digital clothing that could be sold on the platform so that the creators could win royalties.  

How will it work? As it says in the FAQ section, you won’t be able to hold your art in current crypto wallets. Purchase pieces will be kept in your Nike account. The platform will be based on Polygon, a layer-2 network; Nike claims that they selected Polygon due to their pledge to carbon neutrality.

Where could we “Wear” Clothing NFTs?

This isn’t Nike’s first Web 3.0 project, which was precedent by NikeLand, a zone in the Roblox Online web game. Could the Nike gear be wearable on Roblox? Will it be exclusive to Roblox? This is part of the speculative game of Web 3.0: Nike might create or update its pieces at a later stage to be wearable as a cross-chain or cross-metaverse product. As we often say, this is only the beginning, and it’s an exciting one.
