Google My Business: How To Create And Improve

If you own a business, any business at all, you have to make sure that you have a Google My Business page: It is a great way to generate more leads and improve your brand appearance.

What is Google My Business, you ask? GMB is a platform for local businesses created by Google, used to be known as Google Local (The current GMB does not necessarily require a physical location), and basically gives you the possibility to create a Google web page that can appear in search results. A GMB page should include details about the business that will appear on Google Maps when someone searches for a service of that kind on Google: Location, opening hours, user reviews, products, services, posts, sales, and more.

If your business has its own website, it’s just as good: GMB is a great way to promote your website and boost it. Even if your business doesn’t have a physical location and doesn’t have a website, a GMB page could still help your business bring in new leads via Google search. Most importantly, a GMB page is free, just like an Instagram profile. So, why not do it?

Build your Google My Business page

After we have established that any business needs a google my business page, we first need to create it.Β

  1. Go to this address and click on creating a business page.Β
  2. Fill out the form according to the stages: Fill in the category, contact details, etc.
  3. When you fill up the name of your business, it is worth adding the specified service you provide to the business title (since the categories might need to be more specific for you).
  4. If you have a physical location, fill in your location. If you don’t have a physical location but provide services in a defined location, leave the address empty and fill in the service area later.

After you fill out all the details, Google needs to verify your business to present it in search results. Sometimes, Google chooses to verify the business by sending a postcard to your business address and asking you to enter a pin code received in the postcard. In other cases, Google suffices by verifying your email or phone number (It probably has something to do with how trustworthy the user is Google).Β

Promote your Google My Business page

Promoting our GMB page works similarly to promoting our website via optimization: We always need to try and improve our GMB page in a number of aspects so that when Google decides which GMB pages it wants to present, it will choose our page. So, what can we do to optimize our GMB page?

Use pictures

According to Google, businesses with pictures receive up to 35% more clicks than businesses without them. So, choose a cover picture and a logo picture at the very least, and if you can, pictures describing the physical space of the business (The entry, etc.) use 720X720 images, jpg or PNG format.

Get good reviews

How can Google know if your business is any good? By relying on reviews left by customers on your GMB page. It is worth noting that Google has some sort of quality assurance regarding fake reviews, so try to avoid those. However, urge your customers to leave positive reviews on your Google business page. If you receive a negative review, comment on it, express your regret and try to resolve the conflicting issue (If the issue is solved, the customer might agree to delete the review). You can also invite them to do it by sending them a link.

Upload Posts

GMB pages allow you to upload posts: Content you have created, sales, special offers, special updates, etc. If you upload content, it will undoubtedly help your GMB to receive credibility.Β

Online Presence

Google is constantly scanning the internet and indexing it. To promote your GMB page, it helps if your business name is written in multiple places throughout the internet (the more quality the referring domain, the better). Furthermore, if and when you link your business website to your Google My Business page, make sure you write and spell your business name on the website exactly how it is written on your GMB page.
