Philanthropy NFT: Ventures Worth Knowing About

One of the primary growth engines of the NFT market is definitely philanthropy: In 2021, over 12 million dollars were donated by NFT projects. We should not be surprised: Nonprofits and art have always gone hand in hand, and naturally, this trend has continued into NFT art.Β

Furthermore, NFT projects have some unique characteristics that help facilitate the funding of nonprofits. First of all, NFT projects usually have a continuous royalty plan that enables them to keep raising money for the cause over time, instead of a one-time thing. Furthermore, the fact that the donations are paid in crypto is incredibly efficient for specific causes since it is much easier and cheaper to deliver the raised funds (e.g., Sending money to Ukraine people in these difficult times). On top of that, in NFT projects, donors can “show off” their donations by adding the creation to one of their digital assets. That way, donors can get credit for donating from their clients.

The relationship between nonprofits and NFTs is an interesting phenomenon to observe. Therefore, we have gathered a list of intriguing nonprofits using NFTs to raise money that we think is worth learning from.

Crypto Boy

Recently “Politico” published a draft of an opinion by Justice Alito from the U.S supreme court. In the Draft, Alito stated that The U.S supreme court would soon overturn Roe V Wade, probably the most famous legal decision of all times, that entrenched the right to have an abortion as a constitutional right. As of now, it is still an unpublished draft, but it has become clear that the “Pro-Life” movement in America has gained its most significant achievement in its battle against abortion rights. It won’t be long before millions of women in America, mainly in the southern states, will lose much of their control over their bodies.

In light of this troubling zeitgeist, some social endeavors are trying to fight for women’s rights. One of these endeavors is Crypto Boy, a Song by singer Salem Ilese.Β

The song lyrics are basically a parody about crypto enthusiasts. However, that song has a nice rhythm, so it went viral on Tik Tok pretty fast. It even gained popularity in the crypto community. Following its success, Salem Ilese teamed up with the provocative russian band Pussy Riot, that has created original artwork for the drop of Crypto Boy. The piece Crypto Boy will be minted 1,973 times (the year of Roe V Wade) for 0.1 ETH. The proceeds for Crypto Boy are dedicated to the Center for Reproductive Rights, an organization that aspires to protect reproductive rights for women.

Some veteran and reliable nonprofits seek to create additional fundraising channels via NFTs. One of them is OceanCare: This Organization has been in the business of saving marine wildlife since 1989. These days, OceanCare is building their Web 3.0 Community called “TheMetaWhales,” composed of Images of whalesΒ (like the ones they are trying to save). They haven’t minted anything yet, since they are still building their community, but with almost 50k followers on Twitter, things are expected to be interesting.

WORLD OF WOMEN

World Of Women is one of the most successful NFT projects out there (The current floor price is 4.294 ETH, over 8,000$). The collection comprises 10,000 images of women, and 2.5% of the project’s revenue goes to charitable causes, such as “Too Young To Wed,” a nonprofit that fights against child marriage. A similar but less successful project is WOMEN RISE NFT, which made a collection very similar to WOW, and donated 2.5% of its revenue to the Malala Fund, an international organization that helps educate young women from all over the world.

The Orangutan outreach organization aims to help orangutans in Borneo and Sumatra (Orangutans’ natural environment) by providing a stable environment for displaced or orphaned orangutans until they can be returned to nature. If the Orangutan cannot be released, the nonprofit aims to ensure that the apes will have a life of dignity and the best possible long-term care.

It just so happens that The Orangutan outreach organization has received a pretty hefty donation of 850,000$ from the Bored Apes Yacht Club, the most notable and successful NFT project out there. The BAYC is a very successful project, and the founders probably felt that they should give some back to the community. The BAYC recently also donated a million dollars in ETH to the people of Ukraine, to help the people deal just a bit better with the horrors of the war.
