60 Is The New 15? Instagram Might Enable Sixty Seconds Stories
What is the exact story length? indeed an important question, and not an easy one to answer. Lately, it seems that the directors of Instagram are hesitating about this question themselves: As Most of you probably know, if you try to post a video to your story on Instagram that is longer than 15 seconds, theyΒ will split it into 15-seconds-segments each. However, these days IG is reviewing a change of enabling 60 seconds stories.Β
As for now, they are still testing the concept. As for now, only a select group of users can post 60 seconds stories (How are they chosen? Please, like they would tell anyone). First reports of this manner started in December 2021, but lately, it seems that more and more people are joining the pilot group (Not to brag too much, but we recently made the cut).
What Does It All Mean?
This apparent change is adding up with other changes Instagram has recently made: After introducing βReelsβ just not too-long-ago, IGΒ has recently expanded Reelsβ length to 60 seconds instead of 30; Furthermore, Instagram is promoting video content over photos, adding a βScheduledβ Sticker, and more.
When we examine these recent changes that emphasize video content, the conclusion is inevitable: IG is trying to fight off Tik Tok. Though Instagram is still in the lead, it is losing Tik Tok among the Gen Z user growth. By allowingΒ 60-seconds Stories, and allowing its users more creative freedom, Instagram is hoping to capture some much-desired teen users.
